日本では基本的に照明は備え付けのものを使いますよね。アメリカでは基本的に部屋を借りるとき、照明を自分で買って取り付けるのですが、私が今住んでいる物件にはなんと電球を取り付けるためのソケットすら付いていませんでした。ただ壁に使われていないスイッチが何個か貼り付いていたので、改装するときにソケットを取り払ってしまったのでしょう。仕方ないのでスタンド付きの照明を買ってつけています。ただ、天井用の照明ほど明るさがないので、日本にいたときに比べるとやっぱり若干暗く感じます。アメリカは高級店だとかなり照明を落としている店が多いので、暗い＝美しいみたいなセンスなんでしょうか？
