[Okinawa’s New Governor Elected]
Genta Koja won the Okinawa election on September 13, securing 423,124 votes. Of course, I voted for Genta as well. In recent years, Okinawa has been stuck in a situation where prices only keep rising while wages remain stagnant.
Furthermore, the reason why Denny Tamaki lost his election because fewer and fewer people believe that Okinawa is in danger or suffering harm simply because of the military bases here.
Personally, I believe this is the main reason Genta won the election.
More importantly, given the potential for a crisis the situation in neighboring countries, many people—myself included—believe that having military bases is necessary to protect Japan and Okinawa. Genta was elected by the will of the people of Okinawa. He has pledged to double incomes. I truly hope he makes this a reality!!
【The Trap to Divide Okinawa Set by the UN】
On Monday, September 21, 2026 (a national holiday), I attended a study session hosted by the Japan Okinawa Policy Research Forum.
To my surprise, I learned that a group claiming Okinawa is home to the indigenous Ryukyuan people and that it is a Japanese colony had delivered a speech at the United Nations. I felt a sense of crisis that this group is ignoring the will of the people currently living in Okinawa and acting unilaterally as representatives of the Okinawan people.

We, the people of Okinawa Prefecture,
・Almost 100% of us do not consider Okinawa to be a Japanese colony
・We have absolutely no complaints about Okinawa being part of Japan
・We are proud of Japan and hope for the continued development of both Japan and Okinawa

Satoru Nakamura, Chairman of the Okinawa Policy Research Forum, is working to bring his erroneous claim—that “the people of Okinawa are an indigenous people suffering human rights violations and colonial rule at the hands of the Japanese government”—to the attention of the United Nations. Currently, the organization relies entirely on his individual efforts; to ensure sustained activity in the future, he aims to secure a stable source of funding and train young staff members over the next two years.
