南アメリカ出身の親友に教えてもらった、ベネズエラの作曲家エステベスの曲。
唯一のピアノ曲集となった「子どものための17の曲」より「黒い天使」です。
当時、ベネズエラでは黒人は奴隷として働かせられていて、扱いはひどいものでした。
教会には、天使の絵がたくさん描かれているが、それらはすべて白い(白人の)天使だ。なぜここには黒い(黒人の)天使はいないのか。
という嘆きを反映した曲です。
Antonio Estévez, a Venezuelan composer, was first introduced to me by my best friend who is also from Latin America.
The composer’s only written piano pieces are these: 17 piezas infantiles.
This particular piece titled Angelito Negro reflects how Estevez felt towards black people who were slaves back then. In a church you see angels, but they are only white angels. Where are the black angels that heals black people’s souls?
It’s a simple enough piece yet highly powerful.
