What Is Stainless Steel CNC Milling?

Programming

Use CAD software to create a three-dimensional model of the part, and then use CAM software to generate the corresponding processing program.

Process Parameter Setting

Determine the cutting tools, cutting speed, feed speed and other process parameters required for milling to ensure the ideal processing effect on stainless steel materials.

Workpiece Fixation

The stainless steel workpiece to be processed is firmly fixed on the milling machine to maintain stability throughout the machining process.

CNC Processing

Load the program into the CNC system; it automatically controls tool movement for cutting, engraving, or shaping stainless steel.

Surface Treatment For CNC Milling Stainless Steel Parts

MQJM offers a variety of surface treatment options for your CNC-machined stainless steel parts, including processes like blackening and QPQ for optimal results. Each surface treatment has its unique advantages, so make sure to choose the one that best suits your requirements, providing your parts with a perfect finishing touch.

Description

As Machined

After machining, stainless steel parts maintain their original state. At MQJM, a surface roughness of 125 Ra or better can be achieved and further improved through finishing passes. For stainless steel parts, visible tool marks and sharp edges can be removed upon request.

Polishing

Achieve a smooth and glossy surface on stainless steel through manual polishing in multiple directions or the application of a chemical polish treatment. Polishing not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of metalwork but also strengthens stainless steel's resistance to harsh environments. Additionally, polishing plays a crucial role in shaping the mold and manufacturing the final product using the polished mold.

Nickel Plating

Nickel plating has two common types: decorative nickel (bright nickel) is mainly used for aesthetic decoration, while electroless nickel (chemical immersion nickel) is suitable for mechanical parts requiring corrosion resistance. The cost of these two coatings almost doubles, with decorative nickel commonly used for general decoration and electroless nickel for mechanical components with higher corrosion resistance requirements.

Blacked

Blackening treatment is widely applied to various tool components, aiming to enhance product corrosion resistance while maintaining precision. This treatment method is commonly seen in different tool parts, providing them with increased corrosion resistance and ensuring excellent performance and longevity in various environmental conditions.

Plating

Stainless steel electroplating is a process that involves applying an electric current to deposit a metal coating onto the surface of stainless steel. This can include various electroplating methods for stainless steel, such as chrome or zinc plating, aimed at improving appearance, enhancing corrosion resistance, or adding specific properties.

QPQ

The QPQ treatment is a process designed for stainless steel components, involving two key steps: carbonitriding and high-temperature oxidation. By introducing nitrogen and carbon, a robust nitriding layer is formed to enhance the hardness and wear resistance of the components. Subsequent high-temperature oxidation further enhances corrosion resistance.

PVD

PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) is an advanced surface treatment technology that deposits thin films onto stainless steel parts in a vacuum environment, altering their appearance, hardness, and corrosion resistance. Stainless steel parts treated with PVD typically exhibit a bright appearance, exceptional hardness, and increased wear resistance.
