『CentOS5.5 + Apache(httpd) + PHP』 や『CentOS5.5 + Apache(httpd) + PHP その２』 で四苦八苦していた設定、ようやく原因がわかりました。
phpをyumでインストールした後、/etc/httpd/conf.d/php.confで、
DirectoryIndex = index.php
となっている箇所を、
DirectoryIndex = index.html index.php
とする事で、通常通りhtmlファイルも動作しました。
/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.confのDirectoryIndexの設定よりもphp.confの方が優先されるみたいです。…無知でした
