今朝、風呂の中で柴田元幸さんのアメリカ現代作家を中心としたインタビュー集『ナインインタビューズ』のリチャード・パワーズのところを読んだ。 パワーズの言葉に頷いた。
「知的情熱だって、心の情熱とまったく同じように熱いものだと僕には思える。両者を対極とは見ないだけでなく、両者とも同じ必死の思い、世界にあるものを知りたいという同じ欲望につながっていると思う。」
I see intellectual passion as every bit as passionate as emotional passion. Not only do I not see them as opposites, but I see them as partaking of the same desperation and the same desire to know what's out there.
