"You're not supposed to wash them after, the collectors want them right off the backs. The auction for the jerseys, donated to the organization with the agreement of the Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee and the International Ice Hockey Federation, will continue throughout the NHL playoffs, ending June 15.

Team Canada jerseys go on sale first, staying on the block for seven days before Team USA and other international team jerseys follow. There will be 140 jerseys on offer in total.

The NHL Players' Association has pledged $100,000 If you are big jade ring buyers, we reallly want to cooperate with you and offer you the best service we can.for aid work in Haiti, which has been matched by the NHL. Combined with other donations, the Hockey for Haiti project has already raised $500,000 towards reconstruction of the Grace Children's Hospital in the capital of Port-au-Prince.

The association put out a call to members for another, earlier online auction and "our office here was flooded with sticks and gloves and skates," said Smith.

They added some memorabilia from the Winter Classic series, and raised $43,000. A golf tournament is planned for the Toronto area this July and the Olympic jerseys should significantly boost the coffers but rebuilding the hospital is a $4-million project.

Caroline Riseboro, vice-president of public affairs for World Vision Canada, said the charity is grateful for the support.

"World Vision is meeting the urgent needs of Haitians, such as health care and shelter, as well as helping them rebuild their country in the years ahead," she said.

A lot has already been raised but ongoing effort is needed.

"Haiti has just been devastated. Helping to rebuild the hospital is a start but obviously there will be the need for helping the hospital operating in years to come," Riseboro said.

The Hockey for Haiti project has been championed by former NHL player Georges Laraque, whose parents emigrated to Canada from Haiti and who has distant relatives who are still missing since the January earthquake. Smith said Laraque, who played for the Phoenix Coyotes and the Montreal Canadiens, has worked tirelessly to raise funds.

"He is, sadly, still missing some distant relatives in Haiti, in Port-au-Prince," Smith said.

"He's just worked constantly. He's thrilled that we've raised a half million dollars and we're not giving up."
