1959年に、
Kenneth Peacockによって
録音されたものだそうです。
スティーブン夫人は、
ニューファンドランドの
ベルバーンズ在住のようです。
島なのですね。

・・・ってつくと、

（夕食を）食べる」
・・・となるので、
あれ？
・・・となります。
この「dine」って、
スラングか何かで他に
意味があったりするのでしょうか？
この歌の第１スタンザの
歌詞はこんな感じで。

お散歩をしていたら。

やはり「愛の歌」のようですが。
そこに、
あのローズのリフレインが
入ってくると、
なんだか。
意味不明。というか。
意味深。というか
しかもここでは。
彼女が出会った男性に、
「ジョン」という名前が
つけられています
そしてこの歌では、
「Tell him」や「Tell her」は
使われていないので。
「メッセンジャー」は介さずに、
目の前にいる相手に直接、
「（恋人になるには）
あれをして、これもして」
・・・と、
次々と無理な作業を
要求している形になっています。
他の歌のほとんどが、
「シャツを作って」
・・・でしたが、この歌は。
「シャツを手に入れて」
・・・になっています。
昔はシャツは自分で縫うのが
当たり前だったのが。
いつしか、
お店で買うようになっていったから
なのかな？
でもこの歌詞はなんとなく。
「その（特別な）シャツを見つけてきて」
・・・と言っているように
見えたりもします

こちらは、西の端ですね。
そのせいか？
歌詞がだいぶ、
崩れているようにも見えます。
でもこれは、
マサチューセッツ版のような
意図的な改変というよりかは。
伝言ゲームで自然と
変わっていってしまったような。
そんな感じがしました。
リフレインは、
「Green grows the merry antine」
・・・で、
「ローズ」は「グリーン」に
変わっていました。
「antine」って、
何でしょうね？
「and fine」「and thyme」、
それか「in time」が崩れて
こんな造語ができた？？
・・・って感じですけど
そして最初に出てくる
「Capery Ann」
・・・ですが。
これは、
本来は「Cape Ann」である
ところを。
歌っているジョージおじさんが
「Cape」に「ry」をつけて
「Capery」と歌っているのでは？
・・・と、
動画の製作者さんは
言っています
多くの歌詞ではまず、
男性から女性への頼み事から
始まるのですが。
この歌は、
女性からの頼みごとが
先になっています。
そして、
男性から女性への頼みごとには
新たに。
「Tell her to iron it with a red hot iron」
「アイロンがけ」
・・・が登場していました。
東のボストンで印刷された歌でも、
「布を織る」
・・・という新しい仕事が
生まれていましたが。
この歌も。
大陸を東から西へと
旅している間に。
また仕事が増えたようです
この歌を歌い始める前に、
ジョージおじさんはこう言っています。
”This is a song that hasn't got any title,
but it's something about an impossibility,
I think.”
「これはタイトルのない曲なのですが、
でも（名前をつけないのは）
無理なことだと、私は思うのですよ」
