"Ah!" Akiho-chan's voice called out. When I looked, I saw that the shuttlecock that Akiho had hit bounced up and landed on the branches and leaves of a tree standing next to me.

第2話
「あっ！」あきほちゃんの声がしました。見るとあきほちゃんが打ったシャトルが、ポーンと大きく跳ねて横に立っている木の枝葉の上に乗ってしまったのです。
あきほ「あー！乗っかっちゃったー。」
私「あー、乗っかっちゃったねー。
」
かずとも「うわー、乗っかっちゃったん？」
けいた「はい！乗っかっちゃったー！」
隣のコートで練習をしていた男子も上を見上げています。
あきほ「だいたい、なんでこんな所に木があるんだろう。」
私「そんなの知らないわ、先生に聞いても教えてくれなかった。」
けいた「俺知ってるぜ、祖父さんが言ってた。昔はここにお社があって、この木はそこの木だったって。でも学校が立って、ここに体育館を立てるために、この木を切ろうとしたら、切った人が、みんな病気で倒れちゃったんだって。それで仕方なく木を残して、体育館を立てたんだって。」
私「えー！なんで別の場所に立てなかったの？」
けいた「さあね、大人の事情ってやつ？」
あきほ「そんな怖い木、よく子供のいる所に置いておくよね。」
かずとも「あっ、でも僕もお婆さんに聞いたことあるよ。あそこの木は、本当は人々を守ってくれる御神木様なんだよって。」
そうこうしているうちに、窓の外はすっかり夕焼け雲で赤く染まってきました。 続く。
