A NATION of CRYBABIES We Are
There is virtually nothing I agree with Phil Gramm on. And I mean nothing. Until now that is. He is absolutely 100% right with his comment about America having become a country full of whiners and crybabies. We have become just that! Let us consider the following FACTS:
1. We cry about high gas prices. The bred 11s FACT is that our gas is CHEAP! Dirt cheap if you compare what we pay with what those in most of the indutrialized world pay! Try buying gas in Europe, Austrailia or even Canada for that matter. And nobody told you to buy a huge SUV and a house 50 miles from your job either!
2. We cry about a recession. And we are not even in a recession! But we cry anyway thinking we are in one! 5.5% unemployment is hardly a recession! In the 70s and 80s, the country would have loved to have had 5.5%! Back then when it was 8 to 11% and you could not buy a job!
3. We cry about illegal immigration. The fact is that millions of Mexicans are not sneaking in here because they want to spend a day at our beaches. They are sneaking in here because we entice them to do so with the promise of a JOB waiting for them if they manage to sneak in. And the job will be bred 11s 2012 one that none of us would touch with a 10 foot pole!
4. We cry about the state of public education. The fact is that the public schools for the most part are doing their jobs. It is usually the students and parents that are not doing their jobs. Go to any PTA meeting and see how lonely you will feel there. And parents send their kids to school with basic supplies like a decent calculator but with $300 "air jordan" shoes.
These are just a few of the things we cry about. The fact is that we have it pretty darn good here. We live in the biggest houses, drive the biggest cars and eat the best food and have the best entertainment of any people on the planet.

If you think public schools are doing their jobs, take a look at how big the discrepancies are between the percentage of students that states deem proficient (meets or exceeds standards) at grade level (states determine their own academic standards and write/commission their own tests) and the percentage of students that are proficient at grade level on the NAEP (a national achievement test). There's as much as a 70 percentage point difference!
NAEP Researchcenter NAEP and State Equivalent Percent Table
If bred 11s for sale that isn't bad enough, some states set their test passing score ('meets standards' level) as low as 33% correct.
1. if you want to compare gas prices to europe, you also have to include the fact that the dollar is being devalued against those currencies. also europe is much more urban and they have proper public transit.
2. since they recently changed the way they calculate unemployment numbers, those comparisons mean nothing. if you want to compare to the 70s, consider what your dollar was worth back then. just like inflation, unemployment statistics are a joke. and what about the quality of jobs today? in how many towns is walmart the number one employer?
3. you might not touch those jobs with a pole, but just a decade ago i would see americans roofing houses and doing tons of other work that was paying the bills just fine. just like that, those days are over with.
4. education is a big problem in this country on so many levels for so many reasons.

1. We cannot be expected to tolerate outrageous gas prices due to greed of oil princes and speculators. NO alternate fuel sources and energy dependence. Stop whining and contact your representatives. Stop using gas guzzlers. Stop driving so fast. Walk more, drive less. I had to drive up toward Amarillo yesterday, and went at 55 mph. You never saw so many disgusted drivers passing me by and cutting in front of me, even though I stayed in the far right lane. Lots of nasties out there.
2. We are going toward a recession, exacerbated by many factors, GDP down, stock market down, unemployment up, etc. People don't live within their means, we are a consumer nation, huge credit debts; greed hence mortgage crisis; huge government debt (war); too many sucking off the government dole, including illegals allowed to remain here at our expense. Some of these problems we can deal with at a personal level, to make things easier. Stop whining and fix what you can personally. Maybe that means tightening the belt for awhile.
3. We are expected to uphold the laws of the land. NO other country is a repository for aliens who cannot contribute to a nation, but only DRAIN its resources, is such insanity. But they are being allowed to stay and drain our resources, commit heinous crimes, drop their anchor babies here for us to support, etc. Stop whining and let's get rid of them now. No more amnesty.
4. The education system is deplorable and no way is it better than anywhere else, but continues to decline despite all the billions thrown at the problem. They are merely socialist warehouses for our most precious resource, our children, our future; we are so willing to treat our precious resource as an expendible commodity. So we deserve what becomes of the nation unless we: Stop whining and demand better schools, get involved; or be willing to scrub floors to send your kids to YOUR preferred private school; homeschooling always an option.
