　11月の米大統領選に向けた共和党の候補選びで、連邦最高裁は4日、西部コロラド州の党予備選（5日）について、ドナルド・トランプ前大統領（77）の立候補を認める判断を示した。同州の有権者グループが、トランプ氏が2021年の連邦議会襲撃事件で「反乱」に関与して大統領就任資格を失ったと訴えていた。トランプ氏は四つの刑事裁判も控えているが、大統領選に向けた司法闘争の壁の一つを突破した。 【歴代の米大統領、一番人気なのは誰？】 　トランプ氏は連邦最高裁の判断を受け、自身のソーシャルメディアで「米国にとっての大勝利だ」と述べた。 　米憲法修正14条3項は、公職者が国家への反乱に関与した場合に公職資格を剥奪すると規定している。同州の有権者グループは「トランプ氏が議会襲撃事件を扇動した」として、大統領就任資格を失ったと主張。同州予備選への参加を認めないよう求めていた。 　コロラド州最高裁は23年12月、議会襲撃事件は「反乱」に当たるとした上で、「トランプ氏は暴力が起きる可能性を認識しながら、支持者に議会に向かうよう呼びかけた」と指摘。公職資格剥奪の対象には、憲法の条文に明文化されていない大統領職も含まれると認定し、トランプ氏は立候補できないと判断した。 　トランプ氏側は「過去にも暴徒化した政治的デモは多くある。議会襲撃事件は反乱ではなく、トランプ氏が支持者に議会に侵入するよう言ったこともない」「州が単独で国政選挙の候補を失格にすることはできない」と主張。公職資格剥奪の対象に大統領職は含まれないとも訴え、連邦最高裁に上訴していた。 　連邦最高裁の判断は、他の州での同様の訴訟にも適用される。コロラド州を含む16州・地域では5日に予備選や党員集会が集中する天王山の「スーパーチューズデー」を迎える。連邦最高裁は混乱を避けるために、同州での党予備選の前に判断を示した形だ。
