～Revised review of "Born and Raised." ～
Although I'm a huge fan of John Mayer, I only just now let myself bask in his fifth studio album, Born and Raised, seven months after its initial release.
Overall, the songs in this album are mellow and laid-back with southern-rock, folk and low-key approach.
There are no guitar driven, polished, or woos-wows-girls pop tracks, as they were abundant on his previous albums
Regardless, I still felt an improvement in his musical expression/song writing skills, and also his sincerity to music, as always.
"Queen of California", "Born and Raised", "Walt Grace's Submarine Test", "Whiskey Whiskey Whiskey" and "A Face to Call Home" are highlights of the album.
Personally I wanted him to play blistering blues guitar a little bit more but somehow I anticipate he will put out a guitar-oriented album next time.
Until then, I'd happily play this album over and over × ∞ again.:)

大のジョン・メイヤーファンにもかかわらず、リリースされてからおよそ7ヶ月過ぎて、ようやくスタジオアルバム五作目となる「Born and Raised」をチェックしました。(ファン失格かな？)
全編にわたり、柔らかな音色でキーもいつもより抑え目で、くつろいだ曲が多く、なおかつサザン・ロックやフォーク・カントリーの影響を感じさせる仕上がりです。
以前の作品で聴けたようなバリバリギター弾きまくった曲や、きらびやかな曲や、女の子をキャーキャー言わせるような曲はすっかり影を潜めましたが、それでもこのアルバムから彼の表現力やソングライティング面での進歩や今までと同様に音楽に対する真摯な姿勢が十分に感じられました。
"Queen of California"や"Born and Raised", "Walt Grace's Submarine Test", "Whiskey Whiskey Whiskey" and "A Face to Call Home" はこのアルバムの中でも特に際立った出来だと思います。
個人的にはもう少しブルースギターをフィーチャーしたアルバムを作って欲しかったけど、たぶん次はギター弾きまくりのアルバムを作ってくれるんじゃないかなぁ。
それまで気長に待つとしましょうか。このアルバムに何回もじっくりと耳を傾けながらね。:)
