Actuall,I watched the program.

Q：what drove you to go to New York?
ニューヨークへ駆り立てたものは何でしたか？
A：I found education in itself to be admirable but it was not specifically what I chose learn in life.
学校教育そのものはすばらしいものだと思っていましたが、特に自分が学ぶべきだとして選んだものではありませんでした。
I found it much more practical to come to New york city to learn what I wanted to know which was not taught in school.
学校では教えてくれない、自分が知りたい事を学ぶためには、ニューヨーク来るほうがずっと実践的だと感じました。
Q：what made you want to play the guitar again?
※He had a brain aneurysm,and suffered from amnesia.
何があなたにもう一度ギターを演奏したいと思わせたのですか？
※彼は脳の動脈溜を患い、記憶喪失に苦しんだ。
A：the instrument itself is like any other instrument.
ギターという楽器自体はほかのどんな道具とも変わるところはありません。
these are instruments and they're of service to us.
これらは道具であって、私たちの役に立つためなのです。
well,the guitar is an instrument as well.
ギターもまたしかりです。
and an individual has a true desire or a true hunger for what that instrument provides alone,there are no other instruments that will provide what that instrument provides.
ある人が、その道具にしか与えることができないものに対する真の欲求や真の渇望を抱いたとすれば、その道具が与えるものは、ほかのどのような道具によっても与えられることがありません。
when that comes to pass,that individual will dedicate themselves to gaining whats necessary to be able to use that instrument to fulfill their needs.
そういう状況になったなら、人は自らの要求を満たすために、その道具を使いこなすのに必要な能力の習得を目指して努力を重ねます。
Only that will do that.and they cant go forward unless they do something about it.
そうしなければ充足感は得られません。また、自分の渇望をなんとかしない限り、前進することができないのです。

for me,the instruments mean English and guitar.

so thats what the guitar. —when I decided to play the guitar again,it certainly had nothing to do with the past.
ですから、私が再びギターを演奏すると決めたときには、過去の自分とは全く関係ありませんでした。
It was an instrument that provided what I needed internally to be fulfilled.
私が内面的に満たされる必要があるものを与えてくれる道具がギターだったのです。
Q：How do you describe your life with your wife?
奥さんとの生活はどのようなものでしょうか？
A：just the delight of new experiences.thats jazz.thats honestly what jazz truly is.Improvisation.
まさに、新しい体験をすることの大きな喜びです。それがジャズなのです。それこそが、本当にジャズの本質なのです。即興です。
the ability to improvise.the abilitx to not expect something to be the same the next time and to allow it freedom to be whatever it wants to be,
即興する能力です。何かが次回も同じであることを前提としないで、いつでも好きなときに変貌させてやれる能力、
whenever it wants to be that—for it to be able to see what happen when you do that.
成り行きに任せて演奏したときに、そこで生み出されたものが、いったい何が起きたのか気付くような能力、
when it changes itself into something that it wants to experience,it then feels the reaction of everything around it,and how everything responds to its change.
なってみたいように変わってから、周囲のあらゆる反応や、あらゆるものがその変化にどう対応するかを感じること、
thats what jazz really is.so we change everything we do.and we change each other in the process.and we enjoy that. we enjoy the change.
それこそがジャズの本質です。つまり私たちはあらゆる行動を変えているのです。また、その過程で私たちはお互いを変えています。私たちはそれを楽しんでいます。私たちは変化を楽しんでいるのです。
