ここで「あらゆる国の人々」と訳されている箇所のギリシャ語は、παντα τα εθνηであるが、これは「すべての国民」または「すべての異邦民族」と訳すべきである。
なぜならば、εθνηは、εθνοs（国民）の複数形であるが、ストロングによると、複数形はthe nations (as distinct from Isr.)の意味だからである。つまり、「イスラエルと区別される諸国民」つまり「異邦民族」のことを指す。
さらにそこでは、次のように定義されている。

このマタイの箇所の意味は、すべての「真の神を礼拝しない非ユダヤ民族」をイエスの弟子とせよ、と解釈できる。
「弟子とせよ」に当たるギリシャ語μαθητευσατεは、前掲書によると、
to be the disciple of one; to follow his precepts and instruction
誰かの弟子となること。彼の戒めと教えに従うこと。
to make a disciple; to teach, instruct:
弟子を作ること。教え、指導すること。
という意味である。
大宣教命令の意味は、アメリカ人、日本人、中国人、イギリス人などのあらゆる民族を「イエスの戒めと教えを守るように指導せよ」ということになる。
イエスの戒めと教えとは、聖書である。
偶像礼拝している諸民族を聖書の教えに従うように指導することが、大宣教命令の主旨である。

「まもなく再臨がある」という教えは大宣教命令と矛盾する。
「再臨があれば、世界がイエス・キリストの直接の支配のもとに変えられるはずだ」というのであれば、なぜイエスはこの命令を発した後に昇天されたのか。
そのまま留まっておられれば、大宣教命令はすぐにでも実現したはずだ。
大宣教命令は、「イエスが昇天され、その代わりに下る聖霊の助けのもとで」進むというのが、神の御心なのである。
しかし、わたしは真実を言います。わたしが去って行くことは、あなたがたにとって益なのです。それは、もしわたしが去って行かなければ、助け主があなたがたのところに来ないからです。しかし、もし行けば、わたしは助け主をあなたがたのところに遣わします。(ヨハネ16・7)
イエスはここで「わたしが昇天しないと、天の玉座から聖霊を弟子たちに使せられない。だから、わたしが昇天することはよいことだ」と言われる。
つまり、世界の弟子化は次の条件のもと以外では進まない。
1．イエスが天の王座に着かれる。
2．聖霊が地上で助け主として働かれる。
1は「超越」であり、2は「内在」である。
神は、「超越者」であると同時に「内在者」でもある。
この2つの要素は、大宣教命令の前提条件として提供されている。
イエスは近づいて来て、彼らにこう言われた。「わたしには天においても、地においても、いっさいの権威が与えられています。
それゆえ、あなたがたは行って、あらゆる国の人々を弟子としなさい。そして、父、子、聖霊の御名によってバプテスマを授け、
また、わたしがあなたがたに命じておいたすべてのことを守るように、彼らを教えなさい。見よ。わたしは、世の終わりまで、いつも、あなたがたとともにいます。」(マタイ28・18-20)
大宣教命令は、「天地におけるいっさいの権威」があるという「超越者としての宣言」と、「いつも、あなたがたとともにいます」という「内在者としての宣言」に挟まれている。
ディスペンセーション主義の「再臨による世界の弟子化」説は、イエスを内在者とするので、この図式を毀している。
3．
われわれの伝道が絶対的に成功するのは、イエスの超越性と、聖霊の内在性という保証があるからである。
それは人間の口八丁手八丁、策略、工夫で進むのではない。
この2つの絶対的な条件があるから、世界は絶対的に弟子化される。
