「うるしアートはりや」様との出会い2　meeting with The Hariyas

石川県山中温泉・・・高山市から２、３時間ほどでたどり着きました。

「うるしアートはりや」の看板を見つけて扉を開けると、経営されている針谷様御一家がとても温かく迎えてくださいました。

作品（商品）を展示している部屋を案内して頂いている時に目に入ったのが、「数々のアクセサリー」でした。針谷さんにガイドして頂きながら、「うわ〜、すごい」と興奮を隠せない私でした。

蒔絵でこんな作品ができるなんて思ったことがなかった私にとって、まさしくカルチャーショックの連続です。

さらに目に入ったのが、「ふくろうの絵」です。

それも蒔絵の作品ですが、どう見ても油絵に見えました。針谷さんの説明によると、「絵を漆で描くのか、油絵の絵の具で描くのかの違い」だそうです。

つまり、「油絵はこういう絵」「蒔絵はこういう絵」というのがあるわけではなく、蒔絵も油絵も「絵を描くための方法」であり、どんな絵ができるのかは、「描く人のデザインセンス」が大事なのだそうです。

そのため、何かの土台にアクセサリーのデザインで蒔絵を描くことで、とても美しい作品が出来上がり、宝石でもプラスチックでもない、「蒔絵のアクセサリー」が出来上がる、とのことです。

「蒔絵のアクセサリーとは、なんて斬新な発想なんだ」と驚きました。実際、高度経済成長の終わり頃、バブル崩壊の時代、茶道やお着物が一気に衰退すると同時に、多くの伝統工芸品のお店が続かなくなりました。その一方で、「うるしアートはりや」様は、このような「蒔絵アクセサリー」のおかげで、事業が時代の波に乗り、どんどん拡大し、今では、あらゆる蒔絵の技術により、茶道道具などの古典的な蒔絵はもちろん、様々な新作を生み出す傍ら、オーダーメイドにも対応できる「うるしアートはりや」様になられています。

ところが、「うるしアートはりや」様の事業を支えているのは、その斬新的な発想だけではなく、もう一つポイントがありました。

It took me a few hours to get to Yamanaka Onsen in Ishikawa prefecture from Hida Takayama.

I found the sign "Urushi Art Hariya," and opened the door. The Hariyas, who manage the shop, warmly welcomed me.

Mr.Hariya showed me around the exhibition room in their studio, and then, I saw so many "accessories." I was so excited throughout his guidance.

I had never imagined it would be possible to make such works with lacquer. It was beyond imagination. I got so much culture shock.

That wasn't all.

I saw a picture of an owl hung on the wall, which gave me another culture shock.

The picture did look like oil painting. However, this was actually lacquer painting. According to Mr.Hariya, the picture of an owl can be painted with either "oil" or "lacquer."

In other words, neither oil painting nor lacquer painting has its typical pattern. Both oil painting and lacquer painting are "methods" of painting. The most important element for painting is not methods of painting but taste for design.

Painting pictures designed for accessories on some bases with lacquer makes it possible to produce not accessories made with jewels or plastic but very beautiful "lacquer accessories."

I was pleasantly surprised to learn about the fresh idea of lacquer accessories.

In fact, at the end of high economic growth period, when the bubble economy collapsed, Sado, tea ceremony, and kimono, traditional dress, fell into a decline at once. Then, at the same time, many traditional craft shops went bankrupt. However, because "Urushi Art Hariya" produced not only tools for tea ceremony but also accessories, their business fortunately kept up with the latest trends. They even enlarged their business. Now, they are a highly reliable company of lacquer goods that produce not only classic pictures for traditional products like tools for sado, tea ceremony, but also various new products such as accessories while dealing with custumization.

Actually, this is not all. I found another important point that supports "Urushi Art Hariya."
