２０２２年１月開幕のラグビー新リーグ「リーグワン」１部・埼玉ワイルドナイツが２５日、埼玉・さくら オーバル フォート(熊谷ラグビー場)でブレイブルーパス東京と練習試合を行い、28−12で勝利した。日本代表勢は初実戦で、後半から出場した坂手淳史キャプテンは「コンビネーションとかこれからな部分たくさんある。反省はいっぱい出た」と課題を挙げた。
ファンクラブ会員限定で約1700人が詰めかけた中、前半は特に、敵陣深くまで攻め入りながらミスで得点を取り切れなかった。代表勢や外国人選手が合流し、全員がそろってから日が浅く、「自分たちのラグビーをどうするかを思い出して、やっと覚えて、出す」という段階。特にゴール前に攻め込んだ時にどうスコアを取り切るかの共通意識が足りていないという。
多く代表に選手を輩出するがゆえに生じる問題で、今年も仕上がり具合はまだまだ、といったところ。来年1月7日の開幕・Spears 東京ベイ戦（国立競技場）まで残された時間はそう長くない。ただ、「もうちょっとうまく攻撃できるかな、というのはみんなが感じているところ。そこを詰め直せばいい」と見据えていた。
