Before I begin I will do a short introduction for new readers.

I am a Special Educational Needs teacher in Northern Ireland (UK). I am writing a blog to give advice on Special Educational Needs and to practice my Japanese. I might write about other topics that interest me from time to time.

Circle Time - サークルタイム
In UK Special Educational Needs schools teachers often have a portion of the day on their timetable called "circle time". At this point the students move their chairs to the front of the classroom, normally around the interactive whiteboard.

Circle time is a chance for younger students to complete simple activities. Either on the computer or interactive whiteboard.

I prefer students completing these circle time tasks on the computer because it helps them get better at using the mouse and keyboard.

Circle Time Process - サークルタイムプロセス
As mentioned the students move their chairs to the front of the classroom. They circle around the whiteboard or computer. The teacher can then have the students take turns completing the circle time activities.

This helps the students develope their ability to share and wait.

During the attendance section students can come up to the whiteboard and sign themselves in as being present at school. Green means the student is in school. Red means the student is not in school that day.

Students can then learn about the days of the week. At this point you could include a YouTube song about the days of the week. One student could then complete the PowerPoint slide on the days of the week.

Following that the same process continues. Choose a student to complete the PowerPoint slide on the months. This month is..., next month is... and last month was...

You could then play a YouTube song about the months of the year.

This then brings us to the PowerPoint slide on dates. Covering today's date, tomorrow's date and yesterday's date. Select a student to complete the task. If you would like you could play a YouTube song on the topic.

This leaves us with two remaining topics. The next one being the weather. Encourage a student to look outside and describe the weather. They will then choose the correct weather from the selection on the PowerPoint. You can once again play a YouTube song on the weather.
