These unique ponds are breackish water pools that from a rare eco-system that can be found only in the Hawaiian islands.These pools are formed by depressions,crevices,or lava tubes where the fresh water table meets with sea water.
Althought landlocked,they exhibit tidal fluctuations.
Anchialine ponds are the principal habitat for two,rare,small shrimp collectivy called Opae'ula,meaning red shrimp.
Please do not throw rubbish,food,live animals,or fish into the ponds.No fishing allowed.
Help us to protect & preserve these ponds.
