海外からのお客様が2人いらっしゃいました。
親子だと思われました。
10代後半から20代くらいの息子さんと、お父さんと思われる素敵な男性です。
お父さんから質問がありました。
「この帽子は何のためですか？太陽から守るためですか？」
私の心の中（はい、お任せください(^^)）
「はい、それもありますが、かがり火の火の粉から身を守るためでもあります。
あれは長方形の麻の布で、それを巻いてあの形にしています。」
…と言いたかったのですが、「自分で巻いてあの形にしています」がうまく言えませんでした。
その後、簡単なデモンストレーションがはじまり、解説がありました、
鵜には喉にリングがついているため、
大きな魚は飲み込めないようになっています。・・・などなど、
熱心に話を聞いてくださいました。
トルコからいらした親子でした。
「トルキエ」とおっしゃるので、すぐには聞き取れず少し戸惑いました。
すると、「ターキー、ターキー」と言いながら、鳥が羽ばたくようなジェスチャーをして説明してくださいました。
とても一生懸命伝えてくださり、トルコだと理解できました。
独立や分裂ではなく、「チェンジ」という言葉が印象に残りました。
つまり、2022年ごろから国際的に
“Turkey” → “Türkiye（トルキエ）”
という正式名称を使うように変更されたということです。
英語の “Turkey” が七面鳥（鳥）と同じ単語で紛らわしいため、
自国の言語に近い「Türkiye」に統一したとのこと。
国連などでも正式表記になっています。（後で調べましたm(__)m）
あの鳥のジェスチャーが、“ターキー”と一緒になっちゃう、の意味だったのですね。
ターキーといえば思い出したことがあります。
アメリカの知り合いが以前、
「ターキーを食べるとよく眠れる」と言っていました。
栄養成分（トリプトファンなど）が関係しているとも言われています。

I had two visitors from overseas today.
They seemed to be a father and son.

It’s amazing how the cormorant master wraps a simple rectangular cloth to create that shape.
…That is what I wanted to say, but I couldn’t quite explain the part about “wrapping it myself into this shape” in English.
After that, The demonstration started.
Cormorants have a ring placed around their throats, so they cannot swallow large fish.
When their throat becomes full, the cormorant master notices and removes the fish・・・・etc.
They listened very attentively
They were a father and son from Turkey.
When they said “Türkiye,” I couldn’t catch it at first and was a bit confused.
Then they said “Turkey, Turkey,” while flapping their arms like a bird.
They were trying very hard to explain it, and I finally understood.
It is not about independence or division, but rather a “change.”
In other words, around 2022, the official international name was changed from
“Turkey” → “Türkiye.”
This was done because “Turkey” in English is the same word as the bird (turkey), which can be confusing,
so the country decided to adopt “Türkiye,” closer to its native pronunciation.
It is now the official name used by the United Nations and internationally.
That bird-like gesture was literally referring to “turkey.”
That reminded me of something else.
An American acquaintance once told me that
“eating turkey makes you sleepy.”
It is sometimes said that this may be related to nutrients such as tryptophan.
Just a little piece of trivia.
