英語の勉強を兼ねて翻訳をしていました。歌詞にたくさんメタファーが使われていたので自分なりに解釈をしてみました。

（車に乗りながら1979年の頃に戻っている感じがすル〜）

（ここの解釈は難しい。off the streetは「街を出る」という意味があるみたいです。a live wire は送電線または元気な人）
You and I should meet
（僕と君は出会うはずだった）
June bug skipping like a stone
（June bugはカメムシの意味なんですが、これは車を指していると思われます。次の文の主語になるものを考えたらそんな気が。）
With the headlights pointed at the dawn （車のheadlightsが夜明けを照らしている）
We were sure we'd never see an end to it all
And I don't even care to shake these zipper blues
And we don't know just where our bones will rest
To dust I guess
Forgotten and absorbed into the earth below
Double cross the vacant and the bored（the vacant =うわの空 the bored =退屈）
They're not sure just what we have in store

（このMorphine cityはおそらく葉っぱや薬などが横行している様子を表しているかと思います）
That we don't even care, as restless as we are
We feel the pull in the land of a thousand guilts
（このguiltsはteenagerがちょっとタバコを吸ったり悪いことに惹かれることかと思われる）
And poured cement, lamented and assured
（おそらくセメントで過去を封印、そして失望、でも安心みたいな感じかな）
To the lights and towns below
（そして車に乗って家路に着く）
Faster than the speed of sound
（音よりも速く）

（これまでの歌詞は若い頃を歌っていたが、最後の２行でボーカルのBillyが現実に引き戻されている。みんな大人になり、それぞれ違う生活（現実的な）を送らないといけない、または送っているようなニュアンスに感じる。）
The street heats the urgency of now
As you see there's no one around
最後に、この歌詞から１０代の頃に仲間と一緒に無茶してやりたいことをなんでもする危なっかしい頃を思い出してくれました。大人になるとどうしても自分のことでいっぱいいっぱいになってしまし、やりたいことよりも将来の心配の方が先になってしまう。とてもいい歌詞だと思いました。
