家族紹介をするときの定番の言い方です。自分の家族が何人いるか、そこに存在しているというニュアンスで相手に伝えます。
I have four people in my family: my mother. my father, my brother, and me.ではなく
There are four people in my family.と言います。
I have four people の中には自分も含まれているので、I have me（私には私がいる、私は私を持っている） と言っているのと同じである。
I have four people~.
I have brown eyes.「私は茶色い瞳です。（持っている。）」
I have long hair.「私は長い髪です。（持っている。）」
このように比べると、I have four people in my family:という表現がちょっと違うなと感じると思います。
でも、Do you have children? やDo you have siblings?など、Are there~ ではなくDo youを使うのはなんでしょう。 There is構文、奥が深い。
