Just finished "Vamp: The Rise and Fall of Theda Bara" by Eve Golden.
It is a biography of (arguably) the silver screen's first vamps, and one of the first big Hollywood stars.
She is also one of my favorites.

I bought the book for the information and photography, so I didn't expect much in terms of insight or writing skills from the author: and I definitely didn't get much. Although the book is not as annoyingly written as "Loving Garbo" (H. Vickers). Probably the reason why I finished "Vamp" before it, even though I got it later!

Anyways, some photos of Theda from the book:

One of the very first photographs I ever saw of her.
If this doesn't spell out "vamp", not sure what does. Hockey, but fabulous.

Belva was a gorgeous dog, don't you think? He apparently suffered a horrendous death: while on a walk with one of Theda's maids, he got loose and ran onto hot asphalt. The dog didn't survive the burns.
I'd not only fire, but beat the maid, I'm sorry to say.

I also just started on this little treasure from Haslam's (used book store.)
I try to buy every old Beardsley book I can find. The 1960s saw an arts & crafts revival -- so I am particularly interested in books published about him from this time -- and it is the closest I can get to a good quality/affordable read about one of my favorite (mostly my #1 these days) artists.

"Aubrey Beardsley: Eighty-five full-page Illustrations and a Revised Biography" (1967) by Aymer Vallance fits my criteria. It's a lovely, lovely little book I can not believe I managed to grab before someone else did. They just do not make books this way any more. The front cover features a detail of "Bathyllus' Swan Dance", with the back having Beardsley's self-portrait from the Savoy. I didn't take a photograph, but the piece in question can be seen below.

I also recently got Oggi July, and with it my subscription period has been fulfilled.
Although I still have access to scans of magazines, it is simply not the same as holding the magazine in your hands...~

Regrdless.
The Hawaii insert made me anxious for my own VACATION.

I'm working hard, but it's alright because the last week of July, I'm going to be doing nothing else but swim & lay out in the sun every morning, read and drink margaritas, and in general laze around.

I got this whale cookie at USF's coffee shop.
The ingredient list wasn't that bad actually; of all things, it had rosemary oil in it!
It tasted quite ODD on its own, but the herbiness balanced off fairly deliciously with my coffee.

I'm getting the octopus cookie next time I'm on campus running errands.
