A good cup of coffee and pancakes -- it's the simple things in life, you know? Yumyumにゃ

Isn't the cover art so art nouveau?! I love it.キラキラ
The Story of Gosta Berling by Selma Lagerlof. Did you know she was the first woman to win the Nobel Prize (in 1909)? I didn't either. I was interested in the book primarily because the silent film adaptation made Greta Garbo -- my favorite silver screen actress -- a star. My copy of this book was published in 1962 and is in fairly beat-up condition, but I am really loving the story. The translation, on the other hand, is terrible. I can tell a lot has been lost -- none of that 19th-century-novel writing style has been kept... It is very dryly and literally translated. But I will keep reading it because the story itself and symbolism is fascinating. Not nearly as Faustian as I anticipated either.

The I Hate To Cook Book by Peg Bracken (1960). So fun!!!! お~ The recipes are a bit dated, of course,, but the writing is cute and the 1950s-style illustrations even cuter!!~ Here are a couple of examples:
