After writing the last post (Sickness), I remembered this story, and it made me laugh.
This story took place when my husband was blind (目が見えない). We went to the supermarket together. I had recently hurt my back, and it was very painful to move. I had to drive and move very carefully, to avoid the pain in my back. But I had to help my husband walk in the store, and help him choose what he wanted to buy because he couldn't see anything.
I always carry a small notebook and pen with my shopping list when I go to the supermarket. As my husband and I were shopping, I dropped my pen. But I couldn't bend over (伸し掛かる) to pick it up because my back was so painful. My husband's back was fine, but he couldn't see the pen on the floor!
It was so funny! I could see the pen, but couldn't bend over to pick it up. My husband could bend over, but he couldn't see the pen on the floor. So we worked as a team. He bent over and reached his hand to the floor, while I directed him, "Left! Right! A little more forward! Right there!" Finally, his fingers felt the pen, and he picked it up for me.
I thought we must look like such a spectacle! It was like a scene from a comedy show! I still laugh when I remember that!
