Bisco is one of my favorite Japanese sweets. I always feel a little sheepish (恥ずかしい) buying it because it has a picture of a baby on the package, so I guess it must be a snack for small children. I am not a small child, but it's so yummy!
I have loved Bisco for many years. I often buy it at the supermarket. The small package that it comes in makes it seem like such a small little snack--much more innocent (悪くない) than a big box of chocolate chip cookies or a big bag of potato chips! And the faint (薄っすら)taste of lemon is lovely.
Recently Bisco has introduced new flavors--almond, butter, and chocolate. They all taste good! So the other day, when I was buying a few things at Seims, I grabbed a box of Bisco. It was orange colored, so I assumed (expected, 決め込む) it was the butter flavor.
I took it home and forgot about it until the next day, when I was hungry for a snack. I remembered the Bisco. Yay! I was in a hurry, so I tore open the little package and popped a Bisco in my mouth.
WHAT?! It tasted like...cheese?!
I like cheese, but I was expecting a sweet taste, not cheese! I looked carefully at the box. It said "cheddar and camembert flavored". Yuck! Maybe I would have liked it if I had been expecting it, but cheese was not what my tastebuds (味蕾) were anticipating (見込む?) !
By the way, do you like puns (ダジャレ) ? I often make bilingual puns to tell my children. I think they're hilarious (very funny), but often my children don't agree. One of my bilingual puns is yucky (嫌な、不味い) and 焼き. ("Yucky" is the opposite of "yummy".)
When the roasted sweet potato truck drives around our neighborhood, singing, "石焼き芋!", I imitate the song, but I sing, "石 YUCKY 芋!" (I actually love roasted sweet potatoes, but I just think the pun is funny.)
I also tell my children about "たこ yucky", "yucky いか", "yucky 肉", and "yucky トウモロコシ". It makes me laugh and laugh. My children don't think my puns are so funny though. But they are patient, and sometimes they humor me (サービスする)with an obligatory (義理)laugh.
