Last time I wrote about waking up early in the morning.  I told you about my mother waking up early and making our breakfasts and lunches before school.

What kinds of things did we eat for breakfast?  One thing that we loved to eat for breakfast was cereal (セリアル).  There were so many kinds of cereals in the U.S.  Really, the cereal aisle (セリアルの通路? コーナー?) in an American supermarket is HUGE (so, so big!).

Often, there was a free toy inside the box of cereal.  We LOVED that.  Even though the toys were actually pretty low quality--almost worthless--we were so excited to search for the toy inside the cereal.  There were often quizzes or jokes written on the box that the cereal came in, so we loved reading the box while we ate breakfast.

But my mother also made things like eggs and bacon and toast, or french toast, or pancakes, or oatmeal for breakfast too.  And we almost always drank orange juice with our breakfast.

My mother was kind enough to make my lunch for me to take to school every day too.  My mother wanted to make a variety of things for my lunch, but I was a strange child.  I only wanted one lunch, every day.  I wanted a peanut butter and honey sandwich and a banana.  My mother would ask me, "Don't you want a different kind of sandwich sometimes?  Tuna?  Chicken?  Ham and cheese?"  But I always told her, "No, I only want a peanut butter and honey sandwich.  And a banana."

We had a cafeteria at school, but you had to wait in a long line, and the food wasn't very good.  So my best friend and I always brought our lunch, and sat outside to eat our lunch in the sunshine.

What was your favorite breakfast and lunch when you were a child?
