Edamame have become a popular health food all around the world. And 枝豆 are called "edamame" in English! If you search for "edamame" on the internet, you can find all kinds of information in English.
The other day, a very kind student gave me some fresh black edamame. Have you ever tried them? I had never heard of them before, but they are delicious! They have a kind of nutty taste. In fact, they taste a lot like chestnuts (栗) I mixed some in with my rice yesterday, and it was like chestnut rice (栗ご飯).

Speaking of chestnuts, this is the season for them. Do you eat chestnuts often? Chestnut trees don't grow well in my part of 
Texas. I never saw a chestnut or ate a chestnut when I was a child. I had heard about chestnuts in a Chistmas song, but I had never tasted one.
I also knew that "chestnut" was a lovely golden-brown color--usually describing a hair color, or the color of a horse.
The first time I ever saw real chestnuts was when I was 18 years old, traveling in Italy. A man was standing next to a big box stirring (混ぜてる）some round brown things over a hot surface. The smell coming from the box was so good!
I asked my Italian friend, "What is that?"
She said, "Those are chestnuts. You've never seen chestnuts?!"
We bought some. The man scooped up some of the warm chestnuts into a large paper cone. The shell of each chestnut was cut open part-way, so it was easy to remove the shell. The taste of that first chestnut was so good! I have loved chestnuts ever since (ずっとその時から).
Now that I live in Japan, I can eat chestnuts every autumn. There are so many lovely chestnut dishes. Recently, I see chestnuts at the supermarket from Kumamoto. They are already shelled (皮むき). I bought a small bag of them, and they are huge (so big)! And delicious. If you see them at the supermarket, give them a try. There is a picture of Kumamon on the bag.
By the way, 栗 in English is "chestnut". "Marron" is the French word for 栗 .
Texas is very large, so maybe chestnut trees grow in other parts of Texas. I'm not sure.
