一年以上が過ぎてもコロナ禍は収まる様子を見せず・・・
The disease, COVID-19, has never shown its end after one year.
桜の花も虚しく咲いて散り・・・
Cherry blossoms bloomed in vain and are falling now.
無言の春が過ぎ行くような気がします。

さて先日、我が国の某大物政治家が「他山の石」と言う例えを使って顰蹙（ひんしゅく）を買いました。
By the way, one well-known politician of this country used the word, “TAZAN NO ISHI” the other day, which was frowned on by people.
広辞苑によれば、「他山の石」とは・・・「自分の人格を磨くのに役立つ他人の良くない言行や出来事」とあります。
According to Kojien, the most famous Japanese dictionary, TAZAN NO ISHI is something that occared to someone else and gives you useful lessons.
例の大物政治家はご自分の党員の不始末にもかかわらずそれに対して「他山の石」という言葉を使ったので、国民はあきれたようでした。
The politician used the word to the blunder caused by his own party members. It was an embarrassing mistake as a press interview. It showed he was indifferent and irresponsible.
ところでこの言葉・・・・他山の石
Well, this word, TAZANN NO ISHI,
「こういう風に使うんじゃないの？」という例を見つけました。
I suppose I found a better (suitable?) example.
その事件の時は２００１年にさかのぼり、場所はアメリカでした。
The issue occured in the year 2001 in America.
テロリストがテレビ局や出版社に炭疽菌を送り付け、死者や負傷者を出したこの事件でしたが、この時にアメリカはこれを深刻にとらえて、その後ただちにウイルス対策に乗り出したのだそうです。
Some terrorists attacked some places like TV stations, publishing companies, etc, sending some anthrax viruse. The US took it serious and started to take measures against such kinds of viruses immediately.
対策としての研究と開発に20年が経過した時、新型コロナウイルスが発生しました。
20 years passed and COVID-19 appeared.
２０年のウイルス研究歴を持つアメリカは、昨年初めから即座に一兆円規模の予算を投入してワクチン開発をなし、ファイザー社などがいち早く承認を得て接種が始まり、今やかなりの国民がその恩恵に浴しているそうです。
That time the US had 20 years of experience how to deal with viruses. At the beginning of 2020, the US budgeted one trillion yen for developing the vaccine against COVID-19. As a result so many American people have had vaccination already.
一方、我が国日本・・・・・。
On the other hand, how about our country?
遅れてますネエ・・・・。
Oh....very late.
国民性が慎重だから・・・・なんていう言い訳はこの際通用しません。
There may be a poor excuse that Japan is too cautious to vaccinate people so soon.
要するにグズだった・・・・の一言です。
I would say,“Japan is slow. That's it.”
20年前のアメリカでのバイオテロ事件を「他山の石」と考える政治家がいなかった・・・・。
We haven't had any excellent politicians to take the vio-terrorism of America serious for 20 years.
何の備えもできてはいなかった・・・・。
We were not prepared at all.
今や「ワクチン後進国」である・・・・。
Now we are just one of the developing countries in terms of vaccination.
これが我が祖国。
That's my country.
ああ、悲しきかな・・・・なのでした。
