The quiz was about a draft of a student report. You can assume a 5th grader can write a report at this level. The questions include subject-verb agreement, usages of relative adverbs and participle constructions, and report constructions.
この問題は、生徒のレポートの草稿についてでした。小学校5年生がこのレベルの報告書がかけると考えて間違い無いと思います。問題は、主語述語の一致、関係副詞や分詞構文の使い方、それに報告書の構成についてです。
The English language education in Japan seems to have been limited to the sentence level at the longest in writing, not even a paragraph, much less a report. So I often encounter students who cannot carry over smoothly from one sentence to the next. However, all of you must have studied the grammatical components that are required to do so. You just did not have chances to practice them.
日本の英語教育は、書くという点では、最長で文章レベルに終始していて、段落はもとより、レポートなどは問題外のように思われます。ですから、文章から次の文章にうまくつなげられない学生によく出会います。しかし、文章をつなぐための文法の構成要素はみんな習っているはずです。練習する機会に恵まれなかっただけです。
1. What is the correct way to write sentence 4?
文章（4）の正しい書き方はどれでしょう。
A There is good reasons for this attitude.
ｰ>B There were good reasons for this attitude.
C There has been good reasons for this attitude.
D Leave as is.
＊The word ”reasons” is in a plural form; therefore, the subject and the verb must agree as well as the tense.
「reasons」が複数形なので、主語と動詞、それに自制が一致しなければなりません。
2. How can sentence 18 and sentence 19 best be combined?
文章（18）と（19）をつなぐには、どうすればいいでしょう。
A. They took the cats, but then they traded them for treasures in other lands.
B. Taking the cats to other lands, then trading them for treasures there.
ｰ>C. They took the cats to other lands, where they traded them for treasures.
D. To other lands taking the cats, while trading them for treasures there.
＊This is a question of combining two sentences using a relative adverb. You can also use a participle construction. In that case, "Taking the cats to other lands, they traded them for treasures there."
これは、関係副詞をつかって2つの文章をつなぐ問題です。分詞構文を使ってももちろんいいです。その場合は、（答え上）。
3. If the student adds a concluding paragraph at the end of the report, it should

＊A concluding paragraph is usually a summary of what you have written.
