This is one of the children's favorites, "The Fox and The Grapes" by Jean de La Fontaine.
子供たちのお気に入りの一つ、ジャン・ド・ラ・フォンテーヌ作、「きつねとぶどう」です。

This is a short poem. Notice each stanza is rhymed：

赤く熟れた、箱に詰めるばかりの
The grapes hang high o'er the hungry Fox.--
ぶどうは、お腹をすかせたきつねの頭上高く、ぶら下がっていた
He pricks up his ears, and his eye he cocks.
きつねは耳をピンと立て、目をすがめる
Ripe and rosy, yet so high!--
熟れて、赤く、それでも、あまりに高く
He gazes at them with a greedy eye,
きつねは食べたくてたまらない目をして、ぶどうを見つめる
And knows he must eat and drink--or die.
それに、きつねは知っている。食べて飲まなきゃ死ぬことを
飛び上がっても、届かないとわかった時
"Pooh!" says the Fox. "Let the pigs devour
「ぺッ！」ときつねは言う。「豚に食わせりゃいいんだろ
Fruit of that sort. Those grapes are sour!"
あんな果物なんか。 あのぶどうは酸っぱいんだ！」
