On February 9th, I took a day off from my clinical practice to participate in a specialized study group called Cutting Edge. This is not just a typical seminar. It is a place where top experts from various fields gather to share the most advanced knowledge and engage in intense Q&A sessions. It is truly the front line of cosmetic medicine.
What resonated with me most during this session were the words of Dr. Kazuaki Hotta from BIANCA. Dr. Hotta stated that Japanese cosmetic medicine is currently at a crossroads: will we become one of the world's top leaders, or will we remain just a country where cosmetic medicine is popular? He emphasized that this is not the time for doctors within the small world of Japan to hold back techniques or work against each other. Instead, he spoke of the importance of standing together as Team Japan to raise the overall level of the country and compete on a global scale.
I deeply resonate with this philosophy. In fact, many doctors from all over Japan visit Matsudo Clinic to observe my liposuction and breast augmentation surgeries. When they do, I make it a point to teach them everything without hesitation. This is because there is a limit to how many patients I can save on my own. If the level of the entire cosmetic medicine industry rises, we can make more patients happy throughout Japan. I believe this ultimately leads to increasing the overall value of Japanese cosmetic medicine.
As a member of the Japan Society of Aesthetic Surgery (JSAS), the Japan Thread Lift Association, and the Japan Society of Aesthetic Internal Medicine, I am always conscious not to fall into the trap of self-satisfied technology. At this conference, Dr. Yuki Ichihara from Meguro Gen Clinic spoke about providing better cosmetic medicine by understanding the respective limits of dermatology and surgery.
At Matsudo Clinic, we prioritize proposing the most suitable treatment for our patients by approaching cases from both dermatological and surgical perspectives. Hearing Dr. Ichihara’s talk reaffirmed that our dual-field approach is correct, which brought me great joy. For example, in liposuction, it is not enough to simply remove fat. True beauty is achieved through skin texture, tightening, and a design based on anatomical evidence.
Furthermore, the lecture by Dr. Koji Ajima from Ajima Beauty Clinic regarding sunken upper eyelids was extremely insightful. Dr. Ajima categorized the causes of sunken eyelids into six types and clearly presented the diagnosis and solution for each. This was a brilliant linguistic and systematic formulation of what I usually judge and treat based on intuition in clinical practice. By translating intuition into clear language, diagnostic accuracy improves further. It was a tremendous learning experience.
While I have been honored with the achievement of being No. 1 in the Kanto region (excluding Tokyo) for total liposuction cases in both the first and second halves of 2025, I am reminded once again that I must never be complacent and must never forget the attitude of continuous learning. My mission is to incorporate the latest findings and give them back to my patients as reliable techniques.
I will pour all the inspiration and knowledge gained from Cutting Edge into my clinical practice starting tomorrow. I will continue to strive so that I can provide world-class cosmetic medicine to every patient who comes to Matsudo Clinic.
