Gwen McCraeはアメリカのフロリダ州ペンサコーラ出身のシンガー。
１番有名な曲は1975年にヒット。アメリカのビルボードで9位に輝いたのがR＆Bの"Rockin' Chair" 。だけど私は"Keep the Fire Burning"がイチオシです。
彼女は１０代の頃から地元のグループと教会やクラブで歌い、演奏を始めた。
1963年には出会って1週間以内に、水夫のGeorge McCraeと結婚。ものすごいスピード感。
その年から彼女は夫とデュオとして録音していく。1967年に歌手のBetty Wrightの後押しもあり、ヘンリーストーンのTKレコードとソロ録音契約を結んだ。
1972年、彼女はElvis PresleyやWillie Nelsonをはじめ、多くのアーティストの後援を受けて、とてもchillなオリジナルソング"Always on My Mind" を録音した。このように著名なアーティストとつながりがあった模様。
のちにTKレコードが崩壊し、Atlanticレコードと契約をした。
1981年には"Funky Sensation"がヒットしてイギリスやヨーロッパでのライブなど、彼女は永続的な人気を誇るようになった。
1999年にはその曲がDJ THomillaのドイツ語シングル"Get up"でサンプリングされた。これはいい！！！しゃいせー！(fuckとかShit的なドイツ語)笑
その後もいろいろあるのだけれども、長くなるので今回はここまでとします。
この"Keep the Fire Burning"は、メルボルン時代の仲の良かったDJがよくかけてくれていたので思い出の曲。
でも数日前にあんなに平和だったメルボルンのシティ内で、テロまがいのことがあり、死者も出たとのことで胸がいたいです。
