おすすめ！English Book

半年くらい前のこと・・・

ワンツーワンで２回だけ教わった英語の先生に「（日本人の）妻が英語の本を読みはじめたら、英語力がグンっと上達したよ」と言われ、単純な私は英語の本を読むことに・・・

しかし、もともと読書に弱い私は、「ハリーポッター」とか、「なんとなくおもしろそうと思って買った本」は、ことごとこく挫折、もぅどの本を読んで良いのかさっぱりわかりませんでした。

そんなとき学校の韓国人のクラスメイトが「この本簡単でおもしろいよ」と薦めてくれたのがコレ。

「The Ｃurious Incident Of Ｔhe Ｄog In Ｔhe Ｎght-Time」

ホント、辞書いらずでスイスイ読めて、しかもおもしろい！

読書嫌いな私が、１週間程度で読み終えてしまいました。

ポイントはこの３つだと思います。

①私の好きな推理もの

②かわいい絵がついている

③８０％は辞書なしで理解可能

その後、学校の本好きの先生もこの本を「ファンタスティックブック！」と賞賛していたので、本当に良い本なのだと思います。

　　

The Apprentice

「The Apprentice (新人・訓練生）」はイギリスのＴＶプログラムです。

実業家のAlan Sugarの会社のJob intterview（面接）をＴＶで放送しているもの。

その面接がすごい！

１４人の候補者をチームに分けて、いろいろな仕事をさせます。例えば、豪華客船の客を楽しませるイベントを考えて、実際により多くのお金を稼ぐのと、お客さんの満足度を得られた方が勝ち。など。

そして、毎週そのうちの負けたチームの１人が

「You are fired!（おまえはクビだ！）」

と言われ減って行きます。

最後の１人は、年収2000万円の社員になることが出来ます。

実は、先週で、今年の面接は終了してしまい、また来年までお預け。

今度はＵＳＡ版がケーブルＴＶでやるらしいのですが、家にはケーブルないので見れませ～ん。残念

とにかく、学校でも薦められるくらい、英語や、社会勉強になるので、ぜひ見れる方は見てみてください。

He may be from humble East End roots but Sir Alan Sugar has achieved a net worth of over £800m.

The son of a tailor, he left school at the age of 16 and started a short-lived career in the civil service as a Statistician, soon choosing to sell electrical items instead. At the age of 21 he founded Amstrad (Alan Michael Sugar TRADing). Two years later he was manufacturing low-priced hi-fi turntable covers and in 1980, Amstrad was floated on the London Stock Exchange.

The 80s was a boom time for Sir Alan, with his company’s share price doubling in value every year. In 1986 he launched a word processor with an affordable price tag which took Europe by storm. Keeping up with the times, he now produces set top boxes and personal video recorders.

As well as showing the nation some basic rules of thumb for budding entrepreneurs, Sir Alan is one of the government’s team of figureheads who travel around schools and universities encouraging young people to have an entrepreneurial spirit.

Sir Alan is sure that if The Apprentice was around 30 years ago he would have won it.

I 'm on holiday but I've got a lot on my plate, for instance looking for a job in London.

If I get a job, I wonder if I'll be the breadwinner because my husbund is a student now. Maybe not.

I uset to get paid peanuts in Japan so I buttered my mother up when I wanted to buy something.

I wish I could get a well-paid job. It might be a half-baked idea.

I quit eating sweets now because I have put on weight recently although I have a sweet tooth and am addicted to chocolate.

Putting on weight is a piece of cake for me!
