2016年元日、イギリス時間のお昼の12時。日本時間では21時から2時間に渡り、Mikaのradio showがありました!!!
ここのところ、もっぱらフランスやイタリアで大活躍のMikaは、在住しているイギリスでの露出がほとんどなく、ライブもあまり開催されないのが現状なのです。。。
なので、UKファンにとっても、ちょびっとイギリスに住んでたことがある私にとっても、
このお正月の、しかも元旦に2時間ものMika自身のラジオ番組が放送されるというのは、かなり嬉しいことでした。
しかも、Mikaは今やフランスではフランス語、イタリアではイタリア語で、通訳なしで現地の番組やライブをやってのけちゃうもんだから、
Mikaが英語で喋ってくれるというだけで、私なんてもう眼が輝いちゃいまして!
ちなみに個人的にはRadio2のJo WhileyってDJ、好きです、私。たまたま彼女の番組がMikaのニューシングルをいつも一番にかけてくれる、ってことが続いてるようです。

Hey it’s Mika on Radio2. Over the next 2 hours, I’m gonna be(普通にI'm gonna beとは言ってるはずが、wanna beと聞こえて仕方が無い、、、) playing you some of the greatest songs ever. That was David Bowie "Let's Dance".
What a courageous, joyful record! It takes a lots of guts to be as joyful as that. David Bowie is probably one of my old-time favourites. And, ah, it’s because he represents everything. He’s the hero of everyone. From a hip star, to the snob, to the [star???] icons, there’s David Bowie.
This next song is no exception amongst the greatest pop songs ever written. This is Dusty Springfield and ♪I Only Want To Be With You.

Dusty Springfield on Radio2. This is Mika. It doesn’t get more delicious than that! I mean, just pure 60’s optimism, idealism, I mean, you can just imagine her singing it.
デリシャスとか言っちゃって!良い言葉を見つけたな、、。
上手く訳せないけど、「これ以上、デリシャスになんて出来ないでしょ!」=つまり、究極の美味に辿りついた楽曲ということね?
「なんというか、彼女が歌っているのが簡単に想像できると思わない?」みたいなこと言ってます。
確かに、臨場感っていうのとまた違うけど、とっても温かいサウンドで、身近に感じるというか、60'sに代表される曲の良いところを凝縮したような楽曲ですね。
This is The Art of Song. For the next 2 hours, I’m wonna(どうしてもgonnaとは聞こえない!) be playing you some of my favourites, and what I consider to be some of the greatest songs ever, putting a little bit light on the people that wrote them, and the great interpreters also that got them into our homes and part of the sound tracks to our lives.
「この2時間、僕自身が素晴らしいと思っている曲の中からお気に入りを厳選して、その曲を書いた人や、その曲を世に広めた人、その楽曲の数々を私達の家や、私達の人生にももたらしてくれた人達にもほんの少し光を当ててお届けしたいと思ってます。」というようなことを言ってます。
Mikaらしいな。シンガーだけにスポットを当てないところ、アーティストならではって感じで良いよね。
Some of them start in amazingly glamorous places like Los Angeles, and then others start in Barnes. (Mika laughs) That’s where [where’s???] our songs were written. It’s written and recorded in London, and it was also done at Olympic Studios, which is a legendary studio that sadly no longer exist, along the whole host of other studios around the world that is slowly shutting down. I remember myself, being one of the last client of the Olympic Studios in the very room that Dusty would’ve worked in, and also writing and recording on Queen’s piano, where they worked on “Night Of The Opera”. And just sitting there in this empty studio. And there’s only Stuart Price working on the Killers’ record, and [human] in the room above me. And there’s no one there. And there’s one receptionist, this old lady, who used to give me a really hard time every time I came in, or as if I didn’t deserve to be there. She was quite right. I didn’t. I mean, a studio that had The Rolling Stone, The Kinks, Dusty Springfield, of course, you know I just, I felt lucky to be there. The only thing that I took away from it, before it turned into a movie theatre which is what it is now, was a door stop, which sat in my kitchen, private place, holding open my door, until my new dog basically [divowed???] it.
Anyway, classic songs, they fill memories, they kind of accompany your life. And to the next one is a huge example of that for me, but also for so many, of so many different generations. This is Fleetwood Mac, everywhere on Radio2.

からっぽになってしまったその部屋でMikaは一人ただ座っていたら、
その時、別の部屋ではStuart PriceがKillersの作品を書いてて、上の部屋に別の人がいるくらいで、他には誰もいなかったのに、
「でもそのおばさんは正しかったんだよ。実際ふさわしくなかったんだよ!」と明るく笑って言ってしまうMikaが私は大好きです。思わず噴き出しました。

Songs are so powerful, I mean it just like that one, jut makes you remember everything. Songs connect you remember your first crash, the first time your heart got broken. It’s like perfume. They’re exactly as powerful as that. They transport you really fast. I mean that song just reminds me of difficult days, when my mother who is obsessed with Fleetwood Mac, would pack us all, me and my brothers and sisters into our car, a big old white van, and we would drive around, would be raining in London, and I could see that she was crying, but she would be hiding it, she would be playing this song, and everyone would be playing really loud. As we driving through the streets of London she was just trying to forget things. Or even on our way to school, when she bopping away. So, in a way, made her feel better. And now when I play it, I play it every single time, thinking of her. If my mom did that with that song, I’m sure there’s millions of millions of people all around the world who did something very similar, in their own way with that song as well. And that’s how collectively something becomes part of music history.
Just like one of the gigs that I went to, when I was a teenager, I was at school, at the last minute I got given a ticket to Knebworth to see Robbie Williams play. We sat there for hours waiting. The Darkness was the opening act. And I remember everyone was just kind of sitting there with a picnics and the minute they played “I Believe In A Thing Called Love”, that summoned everyone, I mean, imagine hundreds of thousands of people, just for the first time hearing that song, and knowing that would be a hit, within a week. Robbie came on, he sang, he was completely amazing. He knows how to do his job. He’s one of the best show man that we recently had in the UK. I whole heartedly admire him. Robbie, I love you. This song is to me, one of the sweetest, and the most touching moment of your collaboration with Guy Chambers. This is “The Road To Mandalay” and this is the Robbie Williams.
