早速行ってきました♪ 一番のお目当てはエドワード・ホッパー。
高校の美術史の授業で知って以来、ずっと好きな画家なんです。
ホッパーの絵は何気ない日常を切り取っていて、”都会の孤独”がテーマになっているのですが、
そんな中にも不穏さを包み込もうとする柔らかな光が存在して、現実とファンタジーの狭間を行き交うような、誰かの夢の中に迷い込んでしまったような、なんともいえない不思議な印象を受けるんです。
１２月１２日まで開催しているそうなので、また行っちゃおうかな (^-^)
Finally, the "AMERICAN ART FROM THE PHILLIPS COLLECTION" exhibit is in town!
I've been waiting to go see this for months, mainly for Edward Hopper's paintings.
I first learned of Hopper in my High School Art History class and I have been captivated
ever since. I love that, though a realist, Hopper's depiction of light which co-exits with
loneliness and eeriness, make everything look so surreal that it's as if you've wondered into
someone's dream. Hope to see more of his paintings in DC when I go there in December!
