The backlash came from Britain's archery team and their principal target appeared to be world champion triple jumper Phillips Idowu, who declined to travel on Tuesday citing security concerns.
World archery champion Alan Wills condemned the late withdrawals.
Speaking to the Standard at the team's training centre in Lilleshall, he said: "Some people are acting like prima donnas. To pull out so late in the day is just ridiculous and lets the whole team down.

Wills said the track and field team were highly selective about their appearances because they had a bigger events calendar to choose from.

He added: "I've trained in some hell holes in the past but you really must not let it affect your game."

Sports minister Hugh Robertson applauded the archers, who depart for India on Sunday.
He said: "I want to see our athletes go to Delhi and I like the archers' stoicism. Anyone pulling out will miss a fantastic occasion which is also the last multi-sports event before the 2012 Games."
Referring to athletes' refusal to comply with the Governmentordered boycott of the 1980 Moscow Olympics, Robertson added: "We've got a long and honourable tradition of athletes doing what they want.
"One of those [Seb Coe, who competed in Moscow] is now running London 2012."
England rugby sevens player Chris Cracknell also dismissed fears about travelling to India. He said: "We are going to the Commonwealth Games, for goodness sake. Think of all the guys fighting in Afghanistan -- they're facing real danger."

Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) announced a donation of more than $1.3 million to support schools and educational initiatives in Macon County and throughout Central Illinois.
In a release, the company said the donation includes $260,000 for Decatur Public Schools, $250,000 for the Decatur Area Education Coalition, and additional funds for schools and organizations in 16 Illinois counties.
The donation of more than $1.3 million is the single largest contribution ADM has made to support educational initiatives in Central Illinois. The donation was made through ADM Cares, the company's corporate social investment program.
"Education is the key to progress and a foundation of a great community," said Victoria Podesta, ADM vice president of Corporate Communications. "ADM is proud to support educational initiatives in Decatur and the surrounding area to help create a great future for our community, our employees and our children."
Podesta presented the check for more than $1.3 million on Sept. TAG Heuer Watches 15 at Johns Hill Magnet School in Decatur to Gloria Davis, superintendent, Decatur Public Schools; Matt Snyder, regional superintendent of schools, Macon-Piatt Regional Office of Education; Wegi Stewart, executive director, Community Foundation of Decatur/ Macon County; and Daniel Winter, president, Decatur Public School Board. Decatur Mayor Mike McElroy, Johns Hill students and representatives from the Decatur Area Education Coalition, Millikin University, Richland Community College, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Boys & Girls Club of Decatur and Junior Achievement attended the check presentation.
