We, Hot Tub Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Shuji Koboshi), a company specialized in the development and sale of authentic pure carbon dioxide bath additives, conducted a clinical trial to investigate the effects of "neutral carbon dioxide ion bathing" on sleep. We are pleased to announce the results of the trial.

In the cross-over trial conducted by Hot Tub Co., the use of neutral carbon dioxide ion bath additives in HOT TAB bathing showed promising effects related to weight loss. The trial involved 20 female participants, and the effects on changes in body weight, body temperature, and sleep quality were examined. We took great care to minimize changes in participants' daily lives, and recorded measurements under consistent conditions, including bathing duration, body weight, and timing of body temperature measurements.

The results revealed significant weight loss and noticeable improvements in perceived sleep quality after four weeks of HOT TAB bathing. It has been reported that the neutral carbon dioxide ion bath additives, when absorbed through the skin, promote the secretion of nitric oxide (NO) through endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) in vascular endothelial cells, leading to increased blood flow. This effect is believed to contribute to the elevation of deep body temperature, resulting in enhanced metabolism.

Additionally, it is speculated that HOT TAB bathing induces activation of the parasympathetic nervous system through peripheral vasodilation before sleep, which could contribute to the improvement in sleep quality. Growth hormone, secreted shortly after falling asleep, is not only involved in metabolism and cellular repair but also plays a role in fat burning, potentially aiding in weight loss.

Furthermore, it has been reported that longer sleep duration is associated with decreased levels of the appetite-stimulating hormone (ghrelin) and increased levels of the appetite-suppressing hormone (leptin). This suggests a potential correlation between the elevation of body temperature and improved metabolism, leading to beneficial effects on weight management.

In conclusion, daily bathing with neutral carbon dioxide ion bath additives has shown potential to improve sleep quality and enhance metabolism. However, further examination is necessary regarding the subjective assessment of sleep quality using Fitbit, where statistically significant differences were not observed, as well as participants' techniques for measuring body temperature.
