Ensoku is a field trip in Japanese.
When I was in school, we went ensoku every year as school event.
I really liked it
One day, my dad said he wanted to go a museum in Tokyo to see something.
But he doesn't know Tokyo well so he asked me to go with him as a
guide.
My dad wants to go everywhere when he sees places on TV.
When he saw Malaysia on TV that made him want to go there,
when he saw Taiwan on TV then it made him want to go there.
So almost everyday he says "I want to go there."
One of the long weekend in January, we went a field trip to Tokyo.
He wanted to go National Museum of Nature and Science that had a special exhibition about planes and asteroid explorer "Hayabusa", and he wanted to go Asakusa
So we took trains and got the museum around noon, we were hungry.
The museum is in Ueno Park and there are lots of museums in the park.
But not many place to eat there.
There is a restaurant in same building as the museum, so we decided to go there.
But there was a long long line up unfortunately I didn't know where the other place to eat well.
We waited almost 1 hour to get to eat . We were really hungry when our dishes came so ate quickly
Now ready to see the exhibition
Huge object beside the museum
We entered the museum, my dad walked around so fast
I guess he didn't read any information about the exhibition.
Then he said "I'm done, let's get out here and go next"
It was about 10 minutes we spent in the exhibition that he wanted to see OMG
This was my dad's field trip so we headed to Asakusa
on the way to Ueno station.
We got Asakusa
Kaminari-mon at Sensouji temple
He was excited to see Kaminari-mon and to go in to the Sensouji.
But there were so many people came to this temple because it was still first half of the January so people wanted to come this famous temple for Hatsumoude.
He doesn't like crowded place...
So he gave up to get close to the temple
We walked to Sumida-gawa to see something..
" Tokyo Sky Tree"
The TV tower called Tokyo Sky Tree is still under construction. It's going to be tallest TV tower in Japan.
He said "This is the best and most excited moment today"
The reason why he was so excited is my brother works for the construction company which building this tower It made him excited that he had been watching lots of TV show about building this tower as well.
After he saw the tower along the river, he was satisfied he did everything he wanted to do
and said "Let's go home"
We walked lots this day but he didn't say tired or boring even once.
As his age, he is in good shape
It was kind of a rush trip although it was fun and I was glad he enjoyed this ensoku so much
I thought I put up this but I didn't... I guess I forgot.
First 3 days of the New Year, we called "sanga-nichi" is New Year holiday and most of people have off from work.
And lots of people go "hatsumoude". Hatumoude is Shinto event that New Year visit to Shrines praying for happiness and a health year.
This is a good occasion to wear Kimono!
As I said, this is one of Shinto's event, and I've written about going to Buddhist temple for clean our family's graveyard.
Most of Japanese doesn't believe religions. I think people believe in some Gods but not religions.
I haven't really thought about why we go shrines and temples, just go there because of one of our customs.
One of the TV program that I watched in New Year holiday, they were talking about why Shintoism and Buddhism have co-existed in Japan.
According to the program Shinto has longer history than Buddhism in Japan. As for Shinto gods, all nature objects and phenomena are considered having Kami, like the Goddess of Sun, the god of moon, mountains, even a tree has god.
And first Emperor was considered as descendant of the Goddess of the Sun.
Buddhism was brought to Japan in the sixth century through China and Korea.
Shinto and Buddhism both have tolerance and understanding help co-existing in Japan and somehow combined then became daily customs in our life, not as religious.
I think Japanese have the ability to embrace different ideas, cultures and religious from the ancient day.
