I went to “Mino Tea Wares: Kiseto, Setoguro,

Shino, and Oribe“ being held at Suntory

Museum of Art with my tea-mates.

In the Momoyama period (1573-1603), pottery

“Chato” for the purpose of Chanoyu (Tea

ceremony) were made all over Japan.  The Mino

ware of Kiseto, Setoguro, Shino and Oribe was

popular after it was baked in Mino, Gifu

prefecture, but it was not until the 1930 that

it was found that these were actualy made in

Mino. 

 

Until then, it was believed that they had been

baked in Seto, and names such as Kiseto and

Setoguro seem to remain.  There were many

great works and we enjoyed not only the works

from the Momoyama period but also the works

of modern artists such as Toyozo Arakawa.

Immersing in the Japanese mood, we enjoyed

the “Shiruya” made with Kayanoya dashi (soup

stock), a set of 5 kinds of mushroom soup and

the Japanese-style parfait with shiratamafu

(sticky gluten balls) at Fumuroya.

茶友とサントリー美術館で開催中の

「しびれるぜ、桃山」へ。

 

桃山時代、日本各地で茶の湯のための

焼き物「茶陶」が作られた。黄瀬戸、

瀬戸黒、志野、織部の美濃焼は

岐阜県の美濃で焼かれ、流行したが

美濃で焼かれていたと判ったのは

昭和になってからだそう。

 

それまでは瀬戸で焼かれていたと

考えられていたそうで、黄瀬戸、

瀬戸黒という名前が残っているようだ。

名品揃いで、桃山時代の作品だけでなく

荒川豊蔵など近代作家の作品も堪能した。

 

和の気分に浸って、茅乃舎のだしを使った

「汁や」で五種の茸のすまし汁セットと

不室屋で白玉麩の入った和風パフェを堪能。
