何かと何かを比べて差があることを表すときは、〈形容詞／副詞の比較級＋than〉を使います。名詞の繰り返しを避けるときは、〈the＋名詞〉の代わりに代名詞のthatを使います。

『現代の医薬は～よりも効力が高い』は、Modern drugs are more effective thanで表します。


比べる相手の『過去の医薬』は、the drugs of the pastで表すことができます。

drugsの繰り返しを避けるために、the drugsをthoseにして、those of the pastとします。
