Hi there

This is a continuation of "所得課税証明(Syotoku Kazei Syoumei)①"

 Let's get started!

【How to fill in the application form】

The below application form is an EXAMPLE downloaded from 今治市役所. Yours might look a bit different, but the information you will need to provide is the same.

Here is an example, John Smith is applying for himself.

This is an example John Smith is applying on behalf of Jane Brown. In this case, John is a member of Jane's household member.

【Sometimes this happens..】

You lived in another country and then moved to Japan in the middle of the year, you might be not able to get this certificate.

There are an special treaty between Japan and other countries, so you don't get taxed for this first year. You can research whether or not your country has this treaty agreement with Japan.

You will find this out when you actually apply for this certificate. They may be other ways to know if you are in this situation, but I'm not sure, sorry!

【The things you need to know】

・If you need someone else's document…

→ You need a power of attorney unless you are a documented member of the same household as them

・Individual income tax year

→It is 1st January to 31st December. You declare how much you earned in mid Febrary to mid March

After this paperwork is done, the local government estimates how much they levy you in municipal tax. They start sending you a bill on 1st June. This is also the date you can get the latest certificate from local governments.

For example: You lodge your tax return in mid-February to March in 2024 for 2023's annual income. After this, the government estimates taxation, then you'll receive a tax bill during June. After you get and pay the tax bill, you can apply for the latest year's version of your  所得課税証明、所得証明、and 課税証明。

What year of Syotoku Syomei do you need?

→You can apply for not only the latest year's one, but also 4 years retrospectively.

If the newest documnt is from Reiwa 5, You can also get 4, 3, 2, 1 as well. Ask the Immigration office.

As a side note..

Your income is over ¥10.000/year, you are subject to being taxed for residence tax.

If you work at a company, your residence tax will be deducted from your salary every month.

If your contract is not like that, your local government office sends you a bill every quarter, instead of claiming at once.

In this case, of course you can choose to pay at once. Two versions of the same bill will be included in the envelope. One is for 1st term of quarterly payment, the other one is for all-at-once bulk payment.

That's all I could say. Thank you for reading!
