◆ The Flying Burrito Brothers

Country Rock Style創造のPioneer, Gram ParsonsはThe Byrdsを去った後、同じくThe Byrdsの元メンバーで音楽的志向を共有するChris Hillmanとともに中心になって1968年にLos AngelesでThe Flying Burrito Brothersを結成しました。


CountryとRockの融合、Pedal steel guitarの名手である"Sneaky Pete”KleinowをフィーチャーしたCoutry Sound、Everly Brothersの影響をみせるVocal harmonyなどを取り込んだそのSoundはCountry Rock史上に大きな足跡を残しました。


Bernie Leadonは、Dillard & Clarkを離れた後 The Scottsville Squirrel Barkers時代から旧知のChris Hillmanに誘われて、このThe Flying Burrito Brothersに1969年に加入し、

2nd Album”Burrito Deluxe” (1970)

3rd Album”The Flying Burrito Bros” (1971)

の2枚のAlbumにメンバーとして参加します。

↓Gram Parsons


Gram Parsonsは、音楽的才能の一方でドラッグのほか問題行動も多く、1970年 アルバム”Burrito Deluxe”リリース後 Chris HillmanによりFlying Burrito Brothersを解雇されます。また1973年にドラッグの過剰摂取により26歳で急逝しました。
Bernieは1974年のThe Eaglesのアルバム”On The Border”に”My Man”という曲を書き、友人の早逝を悼みました。

1971年、album “The Flying Burrito Bros”  release後(#176 on the Billboard 200)、BernieはBandの商業的成功の可能性の無さに失望して、Groupからの脱退を決断しました。



※）時系列上前後し、私は承知していなかったのですが、Bernieは1969年にLinda RonstadtのSolo 1st Album ”Hand Sown ... Home Grown”(1969リリース)のBack Band “CORVETTES”のメンバーとしてLindaのバックをつとめていたそうです。
