Dishes change when they get to another country, adapting to the tastes of the people who live there, and the ingredients available. Surprisingly, many foods you may have thought were classically Italian, are in fact adaptations, and are very hard to find in Italy itself .
For this reason, if you are planning to travel in Italy, you should know the most popular worldwide 'Italian' dishes that don't exist in Italy
1 - Garlic bread
Bread smeared with butter and sprinkled with garlic powder, salt, and dried oregano or basil is not an Italian custom
. The classic italian recipe is toast a chunky slide of country-style bread, rub it with a clove of garlic while it’s still hot, and then brush it with fresh olive oil on both sides. A sprinkle of salt, and the bruschetta is ready! That’s , but Many variations are abound: bruschetta al pomodoro e basilico (with chopped tomatoes and fresh basil), bruschetta ai peperoni (with peppers), bruschetta con melanzane (with eggplants) and so on
2 - Chicken Parmisan
There’s no authentic Italian recipe for combining pasta with chicken, and the two are always served as different courses. (In general in Italy meat is very rarely mixed into pasta).
The closest thing to chicken parmesan in Italy is baked eggplant with parmesan (pariggiana di melenzane).
3- Fettuccine Alfredo
If you are planning to visit Italy, and can’t wait to eat the famous Fettuccine Alfredo, I’m afraid I have some bad news for you. Fettuccine Alfredo, Shrimp Alfredo and Chicken Alfredo don’t exist anywhere in Italy and the most Italians have never even heard of them.
In 1914 , "Da Alfredo" resturant's owner in Rome invented the dish, but the original recipe was made just by butter and parmisan. By the time passing the dish Recipe spread all around the world until turning out completely diferent from the original one .
4 - Spaghetti with meatballs
Spaghetti and meatballs were completely contrived by Americans. When most of people think of Italian food, they picture heaping piles of spaghetti, baseball-sized meatballs, and a blizzard of parmesan cheese on top, but this is simply a fantasy you’re more likely to find in Lady and the Tramp
. In Italy, meatballs are almost always served alone as a second course.
As for we said for the chicken parmesan, when it comes to the Italian cusine ,meat is very never mixed into pasta
5 - Ham and pinapple Pizza
In Italy, the concept of putting pineapple on a pizza is unheard of. Try ordering a Hawaiian pizza and you'll be greeted with a look of sheer horror by a flabbergasted waiter
Take care when ordering a pepperoni pizza too. You may end up with capsicum peppers (peperoni) instead of salame.
Now you are ready to travel all around italy and enjoy the real Italian cusine
Have a nice day,
Vanessa
