JEANLOUP SIEFF

Light and Shadow ,1984
Looking for timeless picture for the poster of my exhibition at the Musee d'Art moderne
in 1980. I chose this one , which is at once landscape , body and homage to light.

The Anapo , Sicily ,1983
It was on this river that Guy Maupassant sailed in a boat in 1885. looking for
the papyri growing along its banks. A century later , I retraced his journey ,
but the papyri had been replaced by reeds.

Sacha's neck,Normandy 1989
Reclining on a table at Petites-Dalles creperie, my son Sacha was drawing monsters
on the tablecloth. This sunny day will perhaps remain for him a defining memory of
childhood ,but he wasn't aware of the fact.

Mr Lefeu's House , Petits-Dalles,1980
Monsieur Lefeu is our charming neighbour in Normandy , As he can an impeccable
lawn , whilst ours is ravaged by moles. I have taken my revenge by coupling his house
with this wild grass!

On the road ,1986
I have always liked photographing with one hand , whilst driving with other,
and running the third through my hair.
The sun was setting , it had just rained.

Portrait with a evil,1985
It takes little or nothing to clothe nudity robed in the light. The shadow cast by
the window added overtones of crucifixion belied by the serene gaze.

In search of 'A la recherche ,,,,,,1988.
A chance encounter with Time Regained on the road in the Marine. The sprit
of Marcel Proust rustled in the poplars , and the summer was glorious.

A rainy day, Paris ,1975
This backside rose towards the sky like a hand waiting for the first drop of rain.

ROMANTIC NATIONALISM

Ensemble ,Widows of Culloden, autumn / winter 2006-7
"Scotland for me is a harsh ,cold and bitter place. It was even worse
when my great ,great grandfather used to live there.....The reason
I'm patriotic about Scotland is because I think it's been dealt a really
hard land. It's marked the world over as...haggis....bagpipes. But
no one ever puts anything back into it "

Dress, McQueen tartan appliqued with black silk lace; underskirt of black silk
tulle; faux jabot of black cotton with broderie anglaise
" This collection is ....romantic but melancholic and austere at the same time.
It was gentle but you could still feel the bite of the cold, nip of the ice on
the end of your nose....With bustles and nipped waists, I was interested in
the idea that there are no constraints on the silhouette. I wanted to exaggerate
a woman's form, almost along the lines of classical statue."

Dress; McQueen tartan embroidered with jet beads ; collar, cuffs, and hem of cream silk
rulle.

Jumpsuit ; McQueen tartan ,ruffled shirt of black cotton with broderie anglaise.

Dress; McQueen tartan with appliqued black lace; top of white silk embroidered with
red bungle beads; underskirt of black silk tulle.

Alexander McQueen <1960-2010>
" I never conformed to any sort of fashion ideal . My idea was always to show realty
,even though I started at Savile Row and ended up at Givenchy in Paris ;
to depict the time I live in "
