House of Commons votes to postpone Brexit, ball now in EU's court

It has been too difficult for me to understand what Brexit is, the situation goes even further complex.
UK MPs have voted against the Withdrawal Agreement three times and voted to postpone Brexit.
However, they face a difficult future.
I googled about what would happen next and I found several estimation.

According to Reuters(LONDON/BRUSSELS) April 5, "Britain's May asks EU for Brexit extension to June 30; EU could offer a year".
It says that British Prime Minister Theresa May wrote to European Council President Donald Tusk on Friday asking for a delay of Brexit until up to June 30, but said she aims to get Britain out of the EU earlier to avoid it participating in European elections.
It is interesting for me that May who was originally against Brexit has doubled down on making it come true.
And the other hand, Donald Tusk, the chairman of EU leaders, could be willing to offer even longer: up to a year for Britain’s feuding politicians to agree and ratify a plan. And he said that “The only reasonable way out would be a long but flexible extension. I would call it a ‘flextension’”.
