Wisdom 7:24-25
"For Wisdom is more moving than any motion: she passeth and goeth through all things by reason of her pureness. For she is the breath of the power of God, and a pure influence flowing from the glory of the Almighty: therefore can no defiled thing fall into her." KJV
The question in the title probably sounds peculiar to you. Why am I asking who is wisdom? Why does a book in the bible refer to wisdom a woman? Don’t feel bad for not understanding what I’m trying to get at. These are legitimate questions I had at one time, too.
To begin, the wisdom I’m referring to is not the intellectual notion that we garner with age. It isn’t the gathering of years of worldly experience to better gauge our understanding of life around us. Beyond collecting knowledge or imparting good judgment, Wisdom in this case is a spirit. Created by God, and imbued with his own knowledge and discernment, she is a gift from Him to those who seek her out.
Much like the Holy Spirit is not simply a neuter emanation, Wisdom is also not some amorphous being. From the beginning, she has guided God’s people, including Adam, Abraham, and Noah. She cannot be explained in basic terms, but she must be felt.
I testify to her presence:
Wisdom is a gift and a friend that I love dearly. She is the eye of my heart. Through her vision, I am enlightened, freed, and made whole. Her spirit discerns good from evil, and helps me evade sin. Because of her, I can walk a path of righteousness through understanding. Understanding greater than I alone am capable of. Wisdom refuses to let me falter, and councils me at all times.
We must accept her council if we are to find our way to God. She seeks out anyone who seeks her. I pray this day that you will seek out Wisdom’s council in these dark times. She will help you find the light!
