今週は暑かったですね～。
毎日、レッスンにいらっしゃった生徒さんたち全員
“So hot!” （暑いですね～）が最初の一言でした。
ちなみに『熱中症』って英語でなんて言うのでしょう？
先日のニュース記事にはこんな感じで書かれていました。
A total of 2,594 people were taken to hospital across Japan
due to heat stroke in the first week of July
through last Sunday, three of whom died.
◆意訳
7月1日から7日の一週間に、合計２５９４人もの人が
熱中症で救急搬送された。3人が死亡。
◆チェック
・be taken to hospital： 病院に連れて行かれる
・due to ： ～のせいで、～が原因で
・heat stroke ： 熱中症
The figure was 3.6 times more than 729 marked
in the last week of June.
◆意訳
その人数は6月最終週の７２９人の3.6倍以上にのぼる。
◆チェック
・figure：数字
The sharp increase was the result of heat waves
that struck nationwide as the annual rainy season
came to an end.
Temperatures topped 35 degrees Centigrade in much of Japan.
◆意訳
急激な増加は、梅雨明けに伴い全国を襲った猛暑(熱波)のため。
日本の大半では、最高気温が摂氏３５度を上回った。
◆チェック
・heat waves ：熱波、猛暑
・struck nationwide：strikeの過去形で、（地震などが）襲う。nationwideは全国的に
・annual ：年に1度の、例年の
・top ：ここでは、「～を上回る」、という動詞として使われている。
・degrees Centigrade ：摂氏・・・度
・in much of ：～の大半で、ほとんどで
ということで、『熱中症』は・・・
heatstroke でした。
