サンフランシスコ市内で、いくつか避けたい地区があります。
そのなかでも、特に知られているのが、テンダーロイン地区(Tenderloin)
ガイドブック等にも書いてあるかもしれません。
さくっと検索すると、なんと大きな繁華街の一画もその地区に入っているようです。。。
特に気をつけたいのが、オレンジの線の左側（テイラーストリートの西側）になります。
パウエル駅から北にのびているパウエルストリートは、大きな通りで、その両側には色々なお店があったり、ケーブルカーが通る道でもあります。
ユニクロもありましたが閉店してしまいました
パウエルストリートの東側にも結構お店が並んでいます
また、パウエル駅からはWestfieldというショッピングセンターに直接つながっています。
この地図の下のほうにあるシビックセンターの駅の南側もあまり雰囲気よくないので気をつけましょう。
雰囲気が、ドヨーンとしていると言いますか、暗い感じなので、恐らく何か違うと気がつかれると思います。いかにも治安が悪そうな雰囲気です。特にドラッグをやっている人やホームレスが多い地域になります。
ヒルトンであるイベントに参加した時のこと。
イベントが終わって、ヒルトンホテルを出て、特に何も考えず、左へ曲がろうとしたら（テイラーストリートの方面）
後ろから、「ちょっとちょっとどこへ行くのですか。こっちへ来て。そっちはだめ。」
と言われまして。
なんだか、一瞬何が起きているのかわからなかったのですが。。。
単純に、私が行こうとしていた方向がテンダーロインの方向で、危険なので、そちらへは行かないように、と注意してくださったのでした。
There are some areas you want to avoid in San Francisco.
Among them, Tenderloin is notorious.
I suppose some guide book mentions it.
I did a quick search and got surprised to know the area includes some busy streets in downtown.
You would want to be careful more on the left side (west of Taylor St.) of orange line.
Powell St which is extended to north from Powell station is a big street and there are lots of shops on each side. A cable car runs on this street also. A big Uniqlo store used to be here but it got closed.
You will find a lot of stores on the right area (east of Powell St).
Also, you can go to Westfield San Francisco Center, a shopping mall, directly from Powell Station.
South of Civic Center Station is not that safe so you would want to watch out. Since atmosphere is very different, you would probably notice. There are many homeless people and drug addicts.
Here's a little story when I participated in an event at Hilton Hotel in downtown, San Francisco.
I was leaving the hotel after the event. I was going to turn left which was towards Taylor Street. I heard a man talking to me from behind saying, "Hey hey, where are you going? Come here. You shouldn't go there!"
I got confused at one moment. But, it turned out that he was trying to stop me going to a dangerous area, Tenderloin.
