Dr. Garry Nolan of Stanford University has emerged as one of the most credible voices in UAP research, but his recent interviews reveal a fascinating division in his approach to the phenomenon. According to two major interviews conducted this week, Nolan is pursuing two completely separate research tracks that could reshape our understanding of non-human intelligence.
The Tridactyl Specimen Controversy
During his appearance on Vinnie Adams’ Disclosure Team show, Dr. Nolan addressed the controversial Peruvian tridactyl specimens that have captured global attention. According to Nolan’s analysis, one element stands out from a forensic perspective: “the fingerprints that seem to be of a different character than you would expect from human or monkey.” As he explained to Adams, if these specimens were constructed hoaxes, creating authentic-looking fingerprints with non-human characteristics would represent remarkably sophisticated fabrication.

The situation became more complex due to actions by Peruvian authorities. According to research conducted by Cristina Gomez, who spoke directly with the Peru research team, the Peruvian Ministry of Culture confiscated what they determined were constructed dolls from an airport shipment, then used these confiscated items to make a broader claim that all specimens in the research team’s possession must be fraudulent.
The reason Dr. Nolan declined to analyze these specimens reveals the challenges facing legitimate UAP research. According to his account on the Disclosure Team, when first approached to study the mummies, “one of the requirements was that I would, every moment would be filmed.” Nolan’s response was unequivocal: “I’m not going to be filmed. This is not the Kardashians. That’s not how science is done.”
According to Nolan’s estimates, proper analysis would require approximately $5 million, funding multiple research teams, ensuring appropriate controls, and preparing for peer-reviewed publication. As he explained, “You can’t do good science under the public glare because people who want results and updates every week or every other week” risk putting researchers under duress, leading to premature conclusions that get sensationalized before proper verification.
Completely separate from the physical specimen analysis, Dr. Nolan has been conducting groundbreaking research into consciousness as an interface with non-human intelligence. According to his statements on the Lehto Files, this research emerged from his Pentagon work analyzing individuals who reported health effects after UAP encounters.
Dr. Nolan’s brain imaging studies have revealed measurable changes in UAP witnesses, including what he describes as “hypertrophy of the caudate-putamen region and altered white matter in the corpus callosum.” According to his research findings, “the majority of the receiver aspects of human interaction with these, whatever they are, alleged or imagined, entities involve meditative states or, frankly, psychedelic drugs that change how your brain functions.”
This consciousness research focuses on what Nolan calls the “default mode network” — essentially the brain’s sense of self. According to his data, when this network is suppressed through meditation, psychedelics, or other means, individuals report accessing different states of awareness that may facilitate contact experiences.
AI Revolution in Research
Perhaps most significantly, according to Dr. Nolan’s recent statements, artificial intelligence is revolutionizing both areas of his research. As he explained, AI now enables him to “look at all of this data with truly superhuman capability and contextualize the data.” For consciousness research, AI helps analyze complex brain imaging datasets, while for materials analysis, it processes massive spectral data previously beyond human capabilities.
According to Nolan’s research implications, developing human consciousness capabilities could be crucial for future contact scenarios. If consciousness truly serves as an interface mechanism, then understanding and training these abilities becomes essential for humanity’s development.
The key insight from Nolan’s research is that breakthrough understanding may come from consciousness research rather than physical artifacts, or potentially from both working in parallel. His approach suggests that the most credible path forward involves separating these investigations while maintaining scientific rigor in both domains, protected from media sensationalism that has historically plagued UAP research.
