Madeline Miller The Song of Achilles Medium The story of Achilles and Patroclus has been told many times, most famously in Homer's epic poem, The Illiad. A selection in this year's Morning News Tournament of Books, I'm not even sure if Madeline Miller's Song of Achilles was on my radar. Read what people think about The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, and write your own review. Words could never describe how I feel about this book. Song of achilles The Short Version: The story of Achilles, as told from the perspective of his friend and lover, Patroclus. Recommend: The Song Of Achilles. The Song of Achilles is Madeline Miller's sweeping and romantic Trojan war epic recounted through the eyes of enigmatic Patroclus, Achilles's beloved companion. The Song of Achilles is a sort of retelling of The Iliad from the point of view of Patroclus, an exiled prince and the lover and companion of Achilles, the “Best of the Greeks”. Ancient Greece is probably my favourite time period.
